The IT Crowd (US)

Ugh.

So the main problem I have with this shot for shot remake of the UK series pilot is Joel McHale. Richard Ayoade is masterful as always, but Joel doesn't belong sitting next to him. He takes me out of the flow of the show, the humor, and the feel of the IT Crowd.

One word ... SMUG.

Joel can't seem to help being smug, and in certain instances it totally works. *Cough : Community

However, the VGX Awards and the IT Crowd are not two of those instances.

Grade: Incomplete.

*Needs new actor to play Roy, then we can grade it.

Drinking Buddies

Jake Johnson can kinda do no wrong in my book. Could part of it be that I feel very similar to every character he plays? Yeah, probably. The movie uses a healthy does of improv which I found refreshing, and it didn't seem to meander too much. Olivia Wilde played a nice relaxed role compared to other things i've seen her in, and it felt natural.

Ron was great as always (albeit a bit subdued) and Anna Kendrick fit her role well. I heard that Anna was actually a bit tipsy during one of the scenes .. in real life, cause she doesn't drink much. You could definitely see a scene where she looked flushed and laughed a lot. I LOVE that kind of realism added to movies.

The ending felt real and yet left me a bit unsatisfied. Such is life. It's not 'the movies'.

Also, I've stopped shaving and owning my insanely confused/messy hair now after seeing Jake own his all movie long.

Rating: Pleasent Surprise
